FAQs
What’s the process for working with you?
We’ll begin with a brief (15-20 min.) phone conversation to cover the basics of whatever kind of ceremony you’re having. Next comes a complimentary consultation via zoom or in person in the North Andover, MA area to see if the fit feels right. A 50% fee deposit is required for me to begin writing your ceremony. I will provide a detailed questionnaire for you to give me all the info I need to create your ceremony, Next you’ll get the ceremony draft. You’ll have the final say on every word. I will get the final text to you in plenty of time to review before the day of the ceremony.
Are you qualified to legally marry couples?
Yes. In addition to being a Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant® I’m an ordained minister with the Universal Brotherhood Movement and I’m registered with the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth as a wedding officiant. I can easily obtain a one-day permit to officiate in most other states. I’m comfortable working with people across a wide range of religions and beliefs. Most clients I serve want a meaningful secular ceremony.
Why should we hire you instead of asking a friend to marry us?
I’m professionally trained in ceremony structure, writing, and public speaking. Would you ask a friend who’s not a caterer to cater the reception? Officiating a wedding can be stressful for someone who’s not a professional. Let all of your guests relax and enjoy the day!
Is it difficult to obtain a marriage license?
No it’s not. I can provide you with the information you need to obtain a marriage license in Massachusetts or whatever state your wedding takes place.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ couples?
Absolutely! I enjoy helping couples express their love for and commitment to one another, no matter who the two people are.
Do you recommend having a rehearsal for a wedding ceremony?
Yes, a rehearsal is so helpful in making sure the ceremony goes smoothly. I will run the rehearsal and provide cue sheets, reader or vow cards and make sure everyone involved feels prepared for the big day.
Can you be available to officiate a funeral on short notice?
Yes I can. Some families wish to hold a funeral soon after the a loved one’s passing. Working together on a short time-line to make sure I have all the information I need can happen if the family is able to devote the necessary time.
Do you offer ceremony writing for someone else to read?
In special circumstances I offer a “writing only” service. I’m happy to discuss this with you if that’s your interest.
